CROMOBACT contains aztreonam, a monobactam antibiotic. It has bactericidal activity by binding to penicillin-binding proteins in susceptible bacteria and interfering with bacterial cell-wall synthesis, resulting in bacterial cell death.
Recommended for:
Aztreonam has been extensively evaluated in clinical practice and clinical studies for the treatment of serious infections. Clinical evidence has demonstrated activity in infections involving the urinary tract, lower respiratory tract, intra-abdominal sites and other systemic infections caused by susceptible Gram-negative organisms. Its antibacterial spectrum is particularly focused on aerobic Gram-negative bacteria, including many Enterobacterales species and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Aztreonam is not a broad-spectrum antibiotic against all bacterial groups. It has limited activity against Gram-positive organisms and anaerobes, so treatment selection should be based on the suspected or confirmed pathogen and antimicrobial susceptibility testing whenever appropriate.
Aztreonam is used to treat serious infections caused by susceptible Gram-negative bacteria. Depending on the site and severity of infection, it may be used for lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, skin and soft-tissue infections, and other systemic bacterial infections.
The medication inhibits bacterial cell-wall synthesis and thereby causes the death of susceptible microorganisms. Aztreonam primarily targets aerobic Gram-negative bacteria.
The medication is intended for parenteral administration and is given intravenously or intramuscularly after the powder has been reconstituted into an injectable solution. The dose, frequency and duration of treatment are determined by the healthcare professional according to the type and severity of infection, renal function, patient age and antimicrobial susceptibility. Dose adjustment is required in patients with significant renal impairment.
