Linezolid is a synthetic antibiotic from the oxazolidinone class that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis. It is highly effective against gram-positive bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE).
Recommended for:
Community- and hospital-acquired pneumonia
Severe skin and soft tissue infections
Bloodstream infections and sepsis caused by gram-positive bacteria
Resistant bacterial infections where other antibiotics fail
Pneumonia (community and hospital-acquired), severe skin infections, soft tissue infections, sepsis, MRSA, VRE.
Linospan tablets are taken orally, with or without food, usually every 12 hours. Duration of treatment depends on the condition and is prescribed by a physician.
Contraindications:
Known hypersensitivity to Linezolid
Patients requiring MAO inhibitors (e.g., for depression)
Uncontrolled hypertension
Serious blood disorders
Side Effects:
Gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea, diarrhoea)
Headache, dizziness
Low platelet count, anaemia
Vision problems with prolonged use
Potential interaction with tyramine-containing foods
