How it works:
Inhibits bacterial protein synthesis
Effective against gram-positive bacteria including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)
Active against vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE)
Well absorbed orally
Recommended for:
Patients with confirmed resistant bacterial infections
Skin and soft tissue infections
Community- and hospital-acquired pneumonia
When other antibiotics are ineffective
Severe bacterial infections caused by gram-positive organisms, including community- and hospital-acquired pneumonia, skin and soft tissue infections, and MRSA or VRE-related infections.
The medication is taken orally, with or without food. The tablet should be swallowed whole with water. Dosage and duration are determined individually by a physician based on infection severity and location.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to linezolid
Use of MAO inhibitors or tyramine-containing products
Uncontrolled hypertension
Hyperthyroidism
Phaeochromocytoma
Use in children under 18 (only if prescribed)
Side effects:
Headache, nausea, vomiting
Diarrhoea, metallic taste
Blood disorders (thrombocytopenia, anaemia)
Elevated blood pressure
Rare: peripheral neuropathy, lactic acidosis
