Capecitabine is a prodrug that converts in the body to 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), an active antineoplastic agent. It works by inhibiting DNA synthesis in cancer cells, leading to their destruction.

Recommended for:

Breast cancer — monotherapy or in combination with other agents
Colorectal cancer — adjuvant therapy or for metastatic disease
Patients unsuitable for intravenous chemotherapy
When resistance to standard protocols is observed

Breast cancer (including metastatic), colorectal cancer (adjuvant and palliative treatment).

CEPEGARD is taken orally within 30 minutes after meals, usually twice daily for 14 days followed by a 7-day rest period. Dosage is calculated individually based on body surface area and treatment plan.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to capecitabine, fluorouracil, or any component of the drug
Severe hepatic or renal impairment
Leukopenia, thrombocytopenia
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPD) deficiency

Side effects:

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea
Hand-foot syndrome (burning, redness, swelling)
Fatigue, headache
Liver dysfunction
Myelosuppression (reduced white cells and platelets)
Photosensitivity
Taste disturbances, rash, itching
