Bleomycin is an antitumour antibiotic that induces DNA strand breaks, leading to cancer cell apoptosis.

Recommended for:

Combination chemotherapy regimens
Hodgkin’s lymphoma and non-Hodgkin lymphomas
Germ cell tumours, especially testicular cancer
Cervical and head & neck cancer
Malignant pleural effusion (as sclerosing agent)

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to bleomycin
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Severe pulmonary impairment
Severe renal or hepatic dysfunction
Paediatric use without clinical justification

Side Effects:

Pulmonary fibrosis, interstitial pneumonitis
Nausea, vomiting, appetite loss
Fever and chills
Skin changes: rash, hyperpigmentation, dryness
Rare: bone marrow suppression
Allergic reactions
