OXITAN contains oxaliplatin, a platinum-based antineoplastic agent. Following administration, oxaliplatin forms reactive platinum compounds that can bind to DNA in cancer cells. This interferes with DNA replication and transcription and ultimately contributes to cancer cell death. Oxaliplatin is widely used in combination with fluoropyrimidines and leucovorin, including the FOLFOX regimen.

Oxaliplatin has an extensive clinical evidence base. In the large international MOSAIC trial involving 2,246 patients, adding oxaliplatin to fluorouracil and leucovorin significantly improved disease-free survival in patients with stage II–III colon cancer. Long-term follow-up also demonstrated an overall survival benefit, particularly among patients with stage III disease. (PubMed)

One of the characteristic toxicities of oxaliplatin is peripheral sensory neuropathy. Its risk is associated with cumulative exposure and treatment duration, making individualized assessment of treatment duration and subsequent cycles important. (PubMed)
Oxaliplatin is used as part of combination chemotherapy for malignant diseases, particularly colorectal cancer. It may be used as adjuvant treatment following surgery and for advanced or metastatic disease according to the selected treatment regimen.
The medication damages cancer-cell DNA by forming platinum-DNA bonds. This disrupts DNA replication and transcription and reduces the viability of rapidly dividing cells.
OXITAN is administered intravenously as an infusion after appropriate dilution.
