How it works:
Empagliflozin blocks SGLT2 in the kidneys, reducing glucose reabsorption and increasing urinary glucose excretion. This mechanism helps lower blood glucose levels independently of insulin and contributes to weight and blood pressure reduction.
Recommended for:
Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
When diet and exercise alone are insufficient
In combination with other antidiabetic agents
Patients with high cardiovascular risk
Those with obesity or metabolic syndrome
Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Reducing the risk of cardiovascular death in adults with diabetes and cardiovascular disease
As part of combination therapy with other antihyperglycaemic drugs, including insulin
Take orally once daily, preferably at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Dosage should be prescribed individually by a physician.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to empagliflozin
Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus
Diabetic ketoacidosis
Severe renal impairment
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Side Effects:
Urinary tract infections
Increased urination
Low blood pressure
Dizziness
Hypoglycaemia (when combined with other agents)
