How it works:

Inhibits the DPP-4 enzyme, increasing incretin levels
Stimulates insulin secretion after meals
Reduces glucagon secretion, lowering blood glucose
Does not cause hypoglycaemia when used as monotherapy
Suitable for patients with renal impairment

Recommended for:

Adults with type 2 diabetes
Patients who cannot tolerate or do not respond to other oral agents
For monotherapy or in combination with metformin, sulfonylureas, or insulin
Those at risk of hypoglycaemia who require safer alternatives

Type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults to improve glycaemic control as monotherapy or in combination with other hypoglycaemic agents.

Taken orally once daily, with or without food, preferably at the same time each day. Dosage and treatment duration are prescribed individually by the physician.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to linagliptin
Type 1 diabetes mellitus
Diabetic ketoacidosis
Age under 18 years
Pregnancy and lactation

Side effects:

Hypoglycaemia (with insulin or sulfonylureas)
Nasopharyngitis, cough
Pancreatitis (rare)
Allergic reactions
Increased lipase levels
Rash, itching
