LARIAGO contains chloroquine, a long-established antimalarial agent used worldwide for the treatment and prevention of malaria caused by chloroquine-sensitive strains such as Plasmodium vivax, P. ovale, and P. malariae.
Mechanism of action:
Chloroquine accumulates inside infected red blood cells and disrupts the parasite’s hemoglobin detoxification process, leading to parasite death. It also exhibits immunomodulatory effects, which explains its use in rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus.
Recommended for:
Clinical studies over decades have demonstrated the effectiveness of chloroquine in regions where parasite resistance is not prevalent. It remains a recommended therapy in areas with documented sensitivity.
Indicated for the treatment and prevention of malaria caused by chloroquine-sensitive strains. Also used in selected autoimmune diseases due to its anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects.
Take orally after meals with water. The regimen depends on whether it is used for treatment or prophylaxis and must be determined by a healthcare provider based on body weight and geographic exposure risk. Adherence to the prescribed schedule is essential.
