PRAZIFIT contains praziquantel, an anthelmintic medicine with extensive clinical use. Praziquantel increases the permeability of susceptible parasite membranes to calcium ions, resulting in marked contraction and paralysis of the parasite's musculature and damage to its outer surface. This helps detach and eliminate the parasites from the body.

Clinical research and evidence:
Praziquantel has been extensively studied and has been used clinically for decades in the treatment and control of parasitic diseases. The World Health Organization recommends praziquantel as the treatment of choice for all forms of schistosomiasis and supports its use in preventive chemotherapy programs in endemic areas.
A systematic review conducted to support WHO recommendations for Taenia solium taeniasis analyzed 20 studies, including controlled trials. The review found a high cure rate for praziquantel at 10 mg/kg, while most reported adverse effects were mild and short-lived.
However, effectiveness depends on the parasite species, infection site, and correctly selected dose. Praziquantel should therefore not be considered a universal treatment for every type of parasite.
Praziquantel is used to treat specific parasitic infections.
Major indications include:
For schistosomiasis, praziquantel acts directly against the parasites and facilitates their elimination. WHO recommends praziquantel as the primary medicine for the treatment of schistosomiasis.
Praziquantel is taken orally with water during meals. The exact dose, number of doses, and treatment duration depend on the type of parasitic infection, body weight, age, and other clinical factors. Treatment regimens for schistosomiasis differ from those used for clonorchiasis or opisthorchiasis. The appropriate regimen should therefore be determined by a healthcare professional rather than selected through self-treatment.
