How it works:
Eplerenone is a selective aldosterone receptor antagonist that reduces sodium and water retention, lowers heart load, and prevents myocardial fibrosis. Compared to spironolactone, it has fewer hormonal side effects.

Recommended for:

Chronic heart failure
Post-myocardial infarction with left ventricular dysfunction
Hypertension (as part of combination therapy)
Patients with elevated aldosterone levels
Edema due to heart failure

Chronic heart failure (as part of combination therapy)
Arterial hypertension
Post-infarction state with left ventricular dysfunction
Hyperaldosteronism
Edema due to heart disease

Taken orally once daily, preferably at the same time each day. Dosage is determined individually by a physician based on the patient’s clinical condition, kidney function, and serum potassium levels. May be used with other antihypertensive medications.

Contraindications

Hyperkalaemia
Severe renal impairment
Liver failure
Concurrent use with potassium-sparing diuretics or strong CYP3A4 inhibitors
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Hypersensitivity to eplerenone
