AZELAX contains azelaic acid, a naturally occurring dicarboxylic acid widely used in dermatology for the treatment of acne and certain inflammatory skin conditions.
How it works:

Research and clinical evidence:
Azelaic acid has been extensively studied in dermatology. Clinical studies of topical azelaic acid have demonstrated reductions in inflammatory and non-inflammatory acne lesions compared with baseline. The 20% concentration is one of the well-established concentrations studied for acne treatment.
Clinical research has also demonstrated benefits of azelaic acid in papulopustular rosacea. Its therapeutic value is associated with a combination of antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and keratinization-normalizing effects.
Azelaic acid has additionally been studied for post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation because it can inhibit tyrosinase activity and help reduce excessive melanin production.
However, clinical results may vary depending on the specific formulation, vehicle, treatment regimen, and individual skin condition. Therefore, evidence for azelaic acid in general should not automatically be interpreted as direct evidence for every specific commercial formulation.
AZELAX is used for the topical treatment of acne, including inflammatory and non-inflammatory forms.
It is used to help:
Azelaic acid is also used for papulopustular rosacea, where it can help reduce inflammation and the severity of inflammatory skin lesions.
Apply a thin layer to clean, dry skin over the affected areas. It is commonly applied twice daily, in the morning and evening, unless otherwise directed by a healthcare professional. If significant irritation occurs, the frequency of application may be temporarily reduced. Avoid contact with the eyes, mouth, and other mucous membranes.
Most local reactions generally decrease as the skin becomes accustomed to treatment. Severe or persistent irritation should be discussed with a healthcare professional.
