Benzoyl peroxide is one of the most extensively studied topical treatments for acne. Clinical research and decades of dermatological use support its effectiveness in reducing inflammatory and non-inflammatory acne lesions. Unlike topical antibiotics, benzoyl peroxide has a nonspecific antimicrobial mechanism and therefore does not rely on the same mechanism associated with development of bacterial antibiotic resistance. It is also commonly used as part of combination acne treatment, including regimens with topical retinoids or antibiotics.
BENZO 5% GEL is used for the topical treatment of acne. Benzoyl peroxide helps reduce bacteria on the skin, decrease inflammation, and remove excess dead skin cells that may contribute to clogged pores. It is primarily used for inflammatory acne and comedonal acne.
Apply a thin layer of the gel to clean, dry affected skin. Treatment is commonly started once daily, and the frequency may be increased if tolerated, according to the product instructions or healthcare professional's recommendation. Avoid contact with the eyes, mucous membranes, and damaged skin. If significant irritation develops, reduce the frequency of application or temporarily discontinue use.
Benzoyl peroxide may also temporarily bleach hair and colored fabrics if it comes into contact with them.
