Levothyroxine sodium is a synthetic form of thyroxine (T4), the main hormone produced by the thyroid gland. After oral administration, part of T4 converts into triiodothyronine (T3), the biologically active hormone regulating metabolism, cardiovascular function, and neurological activity.
The medication compensates for thyroid hormone deficiency and normalizes TSH levels.
Levothyroxine is considered the gold standard for hypothyroidism treatment and has been widely used for decades. Its efficacy and safety are supported by extensive clinical trials and international endocrinology guidelines (ATA, ETA).
Proper dose adjustment has been shown to normalize TSH levels, reduce cardiovascular risks, and improve overall quality of life.
The drug restores deficient thyroid hormone levels and normalizes metabolic processes.
The tablet should be taken orally in the morning on an empty stomach, 30–60 minutes before meals, with a small amount of water. Dosage is individualized based on TSH levels, age, and comorbidities. Treatment is usually long-term or lifelong.
