Research and clinical evidence
Vonoprazan has been evaluated in numerous clinical studies involving acid-related gastrointestinal disorders. Clinical research has demonstrated rapid onset of action and sustained suppression of gastric acid secretion.
Clinical development programs have included studies in erosive esophagitis, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and Helicobacter pylori eradication. In clinical studies involving erosive esophagitis, vonoprazan demonstrated high rates of mucosal healing and maintenance of healing.
Vonoprazan has also been studied in H. pylori eradication regimens together with antibacterial medicines. In these regimens, effective acid suppression can create conditions that support antibacterial treatment.
Vonoprazan is intended to reduce gastric acid production and may be used for conditions associated with excessive or pathological exposure to gastric acid.
Depending on the approved indication and labeling for the specific product, it may be used for:
Its mechanism of action involves inhibition of the H+/K+-ATPase in gastric parietal cells, resulting in reduced gastric acid secretion.
Take orally as directed by a healthcare professional. The tablet should be swallowed whole and should not be chewed or crushed. It may be taken with or without food. The appropriate dose and treatment duration depend on the diagnosis, patient's age, concomitant medical conditions, and selected treatment regimen. When used for H. pylori eradication, vonoprazan is administered together with the prescribed antibacterial medicines.
