How it works:
Zonisamide blocks sodium and calcium channels in neurons, stabilising brain electrical activity. This prevents excessive neuronal firing, reduces seizure frequency, and provides long-term seizure control.

Recommended for:

Patients with partial seizures
Generalised epilepsy
Adjunctive therapy in epilepsy management
Cases where other antiepileptic medicines are ineffective or not tolerated

Partial seizures with or without secondary generalisation
Generalised epileptic seizures
Combination therapy for epilepsy

Taken orally with water. The dosage is determined individually by the physician and may be gradually increased to achieve optimal seizure control.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to zonisamide or excipients
Allergy to sulphonamides
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Paediatric use without medical supervision
Severe renal or hepatic impairment

Side Effects:

Drowsiness, dizziness
Attention and concentration difficulties
Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain
Loss of appetite, weight loss
Allergic reactions (rash, itching)
Kidney dysfunction, kidney stone formation (rare)
