Lithium carbonate helps stabilise mood by modulating neurotransmitter activity in the brain. It is particularly effective in controlling manic states and reducing the recurrence of depressive episodes.

Management of manic phases in bipolar disorder
Prevention of recurrent depressive and manic episodes
Treatment of suicidal ideation in affective disorders
Long-term therapy in patients with mood instability
Bipolar disorder, manic or depressive episodes, mood regulation, suicidal tendencies in mood disorders.
Taken orally after meals, usually 2–3 times daily. The dosage is adjusted individually based on blood lithium levels and under physician supervision.
Contraindications:
Kidney disease or renal impairment
Severe cardiovascular disorders
Hyponatremia, dehydration
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Hypersensitivity to lithium
Side Effects:
Tremors, fatigue, headache
Increased thirst and urination
Nausea, diarrhoea
Weight gain
Thyroid dysfunction during long-term use
