How it works:
Blocks dopamine and serotonin receptors to stabilise mental state
Reduces delusions, hallucinations, aggression, and anxiety
Improves long-term social functioning and symptom control
Recommended for:
Adults with schizophrenia
Patients with bipolar disorder experiencing manic episodes
Children with autism showing irritability, aggression, or behavioural issues (under medical supervision)
Schizophrenia, acute manic episodes in bipolar disorder, irritability in autism in children.
Taken orally. The dosage is adjusted individually by a doctor. The syrup can be taken with or without food, preferably at the same time each day.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to risperidone
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Children under 5 years (unless prescribed)
Severe hepatic or renal impairment
Side effects:
Drowsiness, dizziness
Weight gain, appetite changes
Tremor, akathisia, extrapyramidal symptoms
Sleep disturbances, anxiety
Gynecomastia, menstrual irregularities
Elevated prolactin levels
