Methylene Blue works as an antidote by converting oxidised iron in haemoglobin (Fe³⁺) back to its functional ferrous form (Fe²⁺), enabling oxygen transport. It also serves as an antiseptic and is used in urological infections, toxic exposures, and as a stain in diagnostics and surgery.
Recommended for:
Methemoglobinemia
Nitrite, sulphonamide, and aniline poisoning
Urinary tract infections
Tissue staining during surgical and diagnostic procedures
Indicated in the treatment of methemoglobinemia, poisoning by nitrates/nitrites, certain infections, and for diagnostic or surgical staining.
Administered slowly by intravenous injection under medical supervision. The dosage depends on the clinical indication and patient body weight. Hospital or clinical setting required.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to methylene blue
G6PD deficiency
Pregnancy and breastfeeding (unless absolutely necessary)
